unexpected increments

This weekend our little church gathering time will be devoted to setting up an extension of Junktion’s garden bed.

Funny story.  We had no intention of this little project, but a sequence of events has brought it to fruition.

A couple of weeks ago one of our awesome Dads, Jarrad, answered the call to help some of the men from the Happy Valley church with a Saturday afternoon working bee.

(Happy Valley Baptist Church own the property where Junktion operates, including the garden bed that the Junktion team have cultivated)

Jarrad was given the unenviable task of taking care of the out-of-control weed/tree out the back of Junktion. A tree which has been a problem for some of the HV church members for some time. A tree which has also provided a little bit of shelter for the Junktion garden, and a 'hiding place' for Junktion customers.

Jarrad gave it a heavy pruning - under the guidance of our hard working landlords.

Needless to say, when little church gathered the next day we couldn’t help but notice a newly exposed garden bed, and a somewhat guilt-laden Jarrad.

Grief over the hiding place, 'forgiveness', and some light-hearted banter ensued … following that, the question of an opportunity: to expand into the space created.

It might not seem like much. And it comes about through a comedy of errors.  But it could be that that’s exactly how God’s kingdom works. Through unexpected increments.

Sometimes I wonder whether our longing for wholesale progress blinds us from seeing the unexpected increments that God provides.

Hence the preparation for a small garden bed extension this Sunday evening.
