space to play

Little church is giving me space to play.  Not in a flippant way.  I don’t mean I’m treating it like a game - cultivating spiritual community with people is sacred business.

It’s more like a whiteboard — where the ideas we scrawl across its surface, and the activities those ideas generate may be deeply formational … but if they don’t work out, we can rub them off, and everyone’s ok with that.

Space to play.  Making things.  Building things.  Trying things.  Laughing often.  Caring deeply.  Forgiving quickly.

Uninhibited in our experimentation, yet we still feel respected and valued.

Having fun, yet experiencing something just as significant as any other opportunity for worship, community or mission.

As I ponder the sense of freedom this brings, my mind runs with ideas of possibility and opportunity … but pursuing those ideas requires an expansion of the space for play.

Is the larger space safe for play?

Are those who steward that larger space ready for play?

Pushing out the fences too quickly will threaten the space already created, but surely there are others who want to play?

As we maintain the value of our play-space, help us to recognize the timing and nature of its expansion.
